Commenting on the appointment Dr Marek Tyl, the Founder of Innovation Forum and its CEO since inception who will now serve as a non-Executive Chairman said:
“I am delighted to welcome Iwan as the new CEO of the organisation. Over the years the Innovation Forum has developed many talents and Iwan is certainly one of our high fliers. He has been with the Forum for a number of years previously leading the Manchester team and as he is both a scientist and an entrepreneur I could not think of a better person to take the Forum to its new heights.”
The Innovation Forum started as a grassroots organisation supporting entrepreneurial aspirations of PhD students and Postdocs at the University of Cambridge and has quickly expanded to become the largest global network for entrepreneurial scientists, now present at three continents, active at over 20 top university campuses and counting over 10,000 individual members.
Iwan Roberts, currently a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Cambridge researching cochlear implants, has a Masters in Physics and a PhD in tissue engineering. Alongside this, Iwan has pursued multiple entrepreneurial interests including competing in IMAGINE IF! prior to joining the Innovation Forum team. He has been an active member, becoming Manager of Innovation Forum Manchester, starting multiple initiatives including the Pitch in a Pub event series. Iwan then took a more strategic role in leading global business operations in 2019. Iwan commented,
“I am excited to take on this role and build upon the fantastic progress the network has made over the last few years. I am looking forward to expanding our central team and to further strengthen our valuable initiatives such as IMAGINE IF! that empower scientists to become entrepreneurs.”
IMAGINE IF! Accelerator competition is currently open for applications from scientific and technology innovators that aim to transform the future of healthcare and the environment. Find out more at www.inno-forum.org/accelerator
